Musikverein Wien, Vienna, Austria

one of the most popular performance halls in the world

In middle and high schools, we have been told that Vienna, Austria is also known as the capital of music, and the "Musikverein Wien" is a place where many musicians perform and shine. Among them, because of its beautiful decoration and excellent acoustics, it is known as one of the best concert halls in the world!! At the same time, the Musikverein Wien is also the resident concert hall of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, where the Viennese New Year's Concert is traditionally held.

The Musikverein Wien is located in the city center of Vienna. You can rather take the red (U1) or green (U4) line of the subway and get off at the "Karlsplatz" stop or take the light rail and get off at the "Bösendorferstraße" stop, and then walk for about 5 minutes to get here. There are many museums and restaurants near the Musikverein Wien, as well as supermarkets for restocking, and there is also a large park across the street. If you are not in a hurry, it gonna be a  good choice to walk around and have a picnic.

After a brief introduction of what Musikverein Wien is all about and some of the nearby attractions. Next, I will share with you the experience of purchasing tickets online and experiencing a violin quartet performance in person. First of all, visit the official website of the Musikverein Wien to know about the concert schedule in the past two months, and see which concert you are more interested in during the time you are allowed. If there are still unsold tickets, you can purchase them by credit card, remit the money and then print out the ticket stubs, it's that simple! In mid-May 2020, a few friends and I booked tickets online because we really wanted to see the splendid decoration in the Musikverein Wien and the sound of international musicians in such a concert hall. So we booked tickets online and chose a weekend to take the train from Wels, Upper Austria to Vienna. At that time, during the epidemic, there were still a lot of anti-epidemic policies for indoor activities.

We arrived at the entrance of the Musikverein Wien about 30 minutes early and saw that many people were already dressed up for the music concert. I would like to remind everyone that although you don’t need to be as formal as a suit or dress in terms of wearing, slippers are not allowed. After the ticket check, there will be staff at the door for guidance, and our seats are in the box on the right side of the stage. The following images are the view of the entire concert hall from the seating area. The crystal chandelier, the wooden floor, and the glorious pipe organ made it just feel perfect. Once everyone was seated, the concert began.

After the concert started, the musicians on the stage began their performances. During which, a narrator came out to briefly describe the music performed and the meaning they wanted to express. However, because all of our friends have an A1 level in German, we can't understand it at all, but this will not affect us from listening to music, we still enjoy it very much.

After all this, I feel that the ticket price is really not cheap for those who just want to visit here to see the decoration. It usually starts from 30 euros, of course, the ticket price varies depending on the performer or group, so it will be different every time. If you are here for someone's performance, the price of the ticket will definitely be worth it. Although I don't really understand how the décor enhances the quality of the music, the sound in the room was really stereoscopic and I couldn't get enough of it. Lastly, I would like to show you a photo of the entrance of the Musikverein Wien at the end of the concert.

PEACE
